Defensive Driving course structure

OBJECTIVES

– Becoming aware of human limitations regarding the ability of observation, decision and reaction
– Becoming aware of car limits, functioning and utility of safety systems
– Recognizing potentially hazardous situations
– Solutions to avoid potentially risky situations
– Managing critical situations – harmonizing the interaction between man and machine
– Building a responsible driving behavior
– Learning basic concepts regarding economical and ecological driving

BENEFITS

• Improving the safety level of both car passengers and pedestrians, but also of other road users.
• Increasing the level of road education.
• Decreasing vehicle operating costs and reducing pollution levels.

To achieve these goals, the Defensive Driving program focuses on two main directions:
– a theoretical session
– a practical session.

THEORETICAL SESSION

Gives basic technical knowledge for a proper understanding of the car safety systems’ functioning and role. At the same time, it draws attention to human limitations in terms of the capacity of observation, decision and response.

PRACTICAL SESSION

It consists of a range of exercises that mimic potentially risky situations that may be encountered in traffic, carried out on premises especially arranged for this purpose. There are simulations of various scenarios that require the intervention of usual safety systems.

The participants have the opportunity to observe and analyze the reaction of the car, the effect of the tested safety system, their personal driving behaviour in such situations and how they should act to support its action.

The course curriculum is tailored to the needs and priorities of the target groups but also to mentality, habits, leadership style, etc..
